When giving your home a thorough cleaning is a priority, the best vacuum under $200 is something worth considering.
At this price range, you make more of an investment in your cleaner. The payoff is, you not only get a machine with better suction and versatility, you also get better filtration.
Vacuum filtration is a key element that’s often overlooked in cheaper models. That’s because people focus on the cleaning ability. While that’s a good thing, it’s also important that the dirt and dust that’s collected don’t escape back out into your home.
Higher end machines like those here come with multiple filters. This helps eliminate odors and trap allergens better.
Of course, you get high end suction and other extra features like portability too.

Best Vacuum under $200 Reviews
Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional (NV356E)
One of the most versatile vacuum cleaners around. It is an upright vacuum with comes with a detachable canister and hose apparatus. This lets you push around the unit to clean your floors. Then pull out the canister module and use the hose for sofas, stairs and other above floor areas.
Essentially, this combination gives you the best of both worlds. The ability to clean a lot of floor area. And, clean everything above the floor, including the upper stories of your home.
Sure, stick vacuums have this feature. But the difference is power.
Stick vacuum cleaners pack much, much less power compared to this one. In fact, at 1200 watts it matches up to the top suctioning vacuums.
At under 14 pounds, we love that it’s much lighter than most of its counterparts. The canister module weighs 8 pounds when detached.
The Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional comes with HEPA filtration and Shark’s Anti-Allergen technology. It is also equipped with a pet brush, crevice tool and other attachments.
The unit isn’t perfect though. As much as we like the design and its practicality, having the entire chassis and motor on the canister makes it top heavy. This makes it feel different from most upright vacuums. You’ll quickly feel the difference when you’re pushing it around.
Another thing we would have wanted was a slightly wider cleaning path. At 9.5 inches wide, it’s one of the narrower designs as far as upright vacuums go.
Overall, this is a great choice. If you have the money to spend, and want something that offers excellent suction power, versatility and is loaded with various accessories, this is one to consider.
Shark Rocket Ultra-Light Upright (HV302)
This is another Shark vacuum cleaner. Unlike most of the others though, this doesn’t come with an upright design.
The Shark Rocket HV302 is a stick vacuum that’s modeled after the lightweight Dyson handheld models. This gives you the ability to clean not only floors but also walls and ceilings. This makes it distinct from the standard stick/broom vacuum.
It is a unit that has a long neck and easy to lift handle. And when needed, you can detach the neck and use the back end of the device which is a handheld vacuum.
Weighing less than 8 pounds, it is very light in weight (3 pounds for the handheld). It does offer good suction ability. It cleans well in both flat surfaces and carpeting. The device also picks up dog hair well.
We also like that it comes with a load of accessories. There are 6 of them in all, including one for pets and a dusting brush. You also get extra tools for cleaning your car and under furniture.
Overall this is a good alternative to the Dyson V6 or V8 vacuums. There are a few differences considering that the Dysons are cordless, yet seem to have a bit more power. They also make it easier to clean larger areas and tougher stuff, like pet hair.
That said, the Dyson V6 and V8 are much more expensive.
This Shark model gives you a similar design to the Dyson lightweight vacuums at a much more affordable price.
Oreck Commercial XL2100RHS Commercial Upright Vacuum
Compact and lightweight. Yet, with excellent suction power. That’s what this Oreck vacuum cleaner is.
The unit is designed for commercial use and offers a 12 inch wide path and is equipped for cleaning flat surfaces as well as carpets. It comes equipped with a high speed (6,500 RPM) brush roll that’s designed to loosen dirt particles stuck in rugs and carpets.
However, the unit was made for cleaning low pile carpets. The low head clearance doesn’t make it ideal for high pile rugs and carpets. Though it does have the suction power to handle them.
Do note that this is a bagged unit. This makes it more efficient in cleaning and keeping even small dust particles from getting back out into the air you breathe.
We like that it has a very long cord (35 feet). Plus, at 8 pounds and having a footprint of only 13” by 6” it’s very easy to put away.
Overall, this is an easy to use, efficient cleaning machine. It may not look it from its size but it does offer very good performance.
The only drawback is that it isn’t made for high pile carpeting. The unit works well for regular floors and low carpets.
Dyson V6 Trigger Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
We did mention the Dyson V6 Trigger’s bigger brothers above during our Shark Rocket Review. As we said, Dyson vacuums aren’t cheap. As such, what you get at this price, as far as its lightweight models are is the handheld V6 Trigger.
This is similar to the full version V6 and close to the V8 except it don’t come with the long nose and head.
That said, it gives you a lot of power. In fact, much more power than your regular hand vac. It combines the top end V6 motor along with Dyson’s non-clog cyclone technology. This is what gives it exceptional suction ability for its class.
The unit uses 2 radial cyclones which increase the flow of air suction. This not only lets it pull in more particles but also suck in the smaller ones as well.
Along with its power, one of its best points is that it is cordless. It can run up to 20 minutes straight. Though the time goes down if you use it in maximum power.
Overall, very nice to use because of its high suction power and ergonomics. It is a bit bulky for a handheld vacuum. And of course, it’s pricey.
Bissell Garage Pro Wet/Dry Vacuum Complete Wall-Mounting System, 18P03
Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner. Need a wet & dry vacuum for your garage or workshop? Consider this.
Sometimes, the standard vacuum just isn’t enough. This is especially true if you need to deal with spills or wet messes.
This one is designed for your garage or workshop. The 12 amp motor gives it good suction ability that isn’t limited to dust and dirt. It is able to handle bigger particles as well as liquids.
The unit is installed on a wall (wall mounting tools are included). It comes with a long 32 foot stretch hose. The length lets you reach different areas easily.
A good sized 4 gallon tank gives you enough space so you don’t end up doing cleanup over and over. We also like that you can see through the tank. This lets you quickly tell if it’s time to empty the tank.
Among its best features is its versatility. Aside from being a wet/dry vacuum, the Bissell Garage Pro converts into a blower. You can use it for clean up leaves during the fall.
Plus, it comes with 7 different attachments. These include tools that make it easy to clean upholstery, carpets, and bare floors.
