For innerspring mattresses, density will refer to the number of spring coils there are in mattress, or its coil count. The higher the coil count the more support you get. And, the less likely it sinks over time.

Coil gauge is rated similarly to metal gauge. As such, a lower coil gauge means it is made of thicker material. This means a 12 gauge coil is thicker than a 15 gauge coil.
